  1. “…[O]n the printed notice, they had inadvertently left out the letter “o” from “count.” This comment was found in Chapter 4, “What to Expect (and Inspect) at Your Hotel,” Location 377-82 in the Kindle edition. Okay, so a typo is a typo, but the authors make a tasteless joke out of it. By Chapter 2, I was already questioning whether I should read the book; but their irrelevant and inappropriate comment in Chapter 4 was the decisive factor for me. I am returning the book for a refund.

  3. G. J. Healy says:

This book was helpful with our visit to China but it is out of date too. Situations are changing very quickly in China and the country is becoming more and more modern. There was toilet paper on the trains. Chinese currency can be ordered in USA. Always buy water to drink and be careful of the soups. Many Chinese peoples can speak English or understand enough so you can get to where you want to go.

  4. M. McCarthy says:

Unbelieveable that this book was published in 2008. I read the book thoroughly while preparing for my trip to Beijing for the Olympics. Myself, along with my host who lives in China, totally disagree with what is written in this book. China is a wonderful place and totally different than what this book leads one to believe. I think the people who wrote the book haven’t been to China in a few years. Don’t buy, gives you the wrong perspective on people, uneducated about culture.

  5. A. Cooley says:

I just returned from 10 days in China and this book was by far my favorite and definitely the most poignant guide book I read.

The authors (one who is Chinese) have been taking their students on trips to China for many, many years.

They LOVE China. They love the Chinese people. They want travelers to China to love it too and so they offer helpful, simple advice on the realities of travel in China.

It is short and sweet and very useful.

Have a great trip. China is incredible.
