AMONGST THE MANY PAGES OF INCREDIBLY BORING, REPETITIVE, UNNECESSARY CONVERSATION, THERE’S A NICE LITTLE STORY ABOUT A 12 YEAR OLD WHO “BEATS THE ODDS.” DITTO FOR THE YOUNGSTERS FATHER. UNFORTUNATELY, TODAY’S YOUTH NO LONGER PLAYS THE GAME IN THE MANNER MR. LUPICA DESCRIBES – ALTHOUGH, LIKE HIM (WE’RE ABOUT THE SAME AGE) I WISH IT WAS. THIS WOULDN’T NECESSARILY BE A PROBLEM IF MR. LUPICA DIDN’T SET THE TALE IN THE YEAR 2004.
THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT PIECE FOR THE AUTHOR TO HAVE DEVOTED AN ENTIRE COLUMN OR TWO IN HIS DAILY NEWS PIECES, OR AS A PIECE IN THE DAILY NEWS SUNDAY MAGAZNE SECTION – NOT AN ENTIRE BOOK…ALTHOUGH, HE’S SURE TO MAKE A HELL OF A LOT MORE MONEY FROM THE BOOK (WHICH I IMAGINE WILL BE MADE INTO A MOVIE -IF NOT IN MOVIE HOUSES, IT WILL POP UP SOMEWHERE ON TV).

Big mouth who writes so amateurishly and predictably that I might as well have stopped on page 4. Sorry Mike, you may have been able to fashion a minor columnist and broadcaster career out of being a flamboyantly idiotic fop, but when you try to write fiction, I’m afraid you come up short … like you are.
REVIEWER’S NOTE: (8/30/2006) I just want to say I think I was a little too aggressive in my review. Sometimes I get a little too proactive and for that I apologize. But know that I do it out of passion and love, never out of spite and hatred.

I was very disappointed in the language in this book. Within the first 15 pages it had taken God’s name in vain and had lots of other curse words. I was ashamed to know schools would have such books available for our children to read. The story line is very good, but had foul language that my children are not exposed to. I was upset to say the least. Unless you are used to bad language and taking God’s name in vain, then I would not recommend this book.
